7 good reasons to go skiing/ snowboarding in January
Sunset in the mountains

Yep it is already snowing in the French mountains! Only a few more weeks before we are off to France for our snow trip. Are you still hesitating whether you should join or not?

Here are 7 good reasons to go skiing/ snowboarding in January:

1. It is fun!
Skiing/ snowboarding is a lot of fun. Get out in the cold fresh mountain air, enjoy the sun on your face, recharge your batteries and invigorate your well-being. Release the stress of daily life and workplace hassles while you fly down the snow covered mountains.

2. You’ll make new friends
What is a better way of making new friends and meeting like-minded people, then to share your love for the outdoors and go on a ski trip together? Nothing unites people like a shared interest. Skiing is a social sport and you’ll find friends everywhere you turn. You’ll immediately have something in common.

3. Quieter Slopes and Lifts
There are no school holidays in January, which means you can forget about long lift queues. With less holidaymakers, you’ll be able to take full advantage of the slopes as you won’t be sharing them with hundreds of other people at this time of year.

4. It beats the January winter blues
It’s easy to hibernate in wintertime and to feel a bit down after the festivities of Christmas and New Year. Luckily skiing and snowboarding get you outside in the fresh air. Whether you’re on your own or socialising with your new made friends it automatically boosts your mood.

5. An extra dose of the sunshine vitamin, vitamin D
With daylight hours being short our levels of vitamin D, the “sunshine vitamin”, tend to run low. Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones, teeth and muscles and it plays an important role in the immune system. So soak up the sunlight and feel the sun on your face as you slide gracefully down the slopes. It makes you feel happier, more energised and helps you sleep better. Don’t forget your sunscreen.

6. It’s a great way to get fit
Think of skiing like a sport that is so much fun you don’t even realise you’re doing it. Even if you’re not a gym bunny, skiing will have you toned up and burning calories before you know it. It could even help you kick-start a healthy regime when you get back home. Besides that, the feeling of flying down the slopes in the crisp open air is almost guaranteed to help you relax and feel adrenaline that you just don’t feel in your everyday life. Rather than the sense of dread at the thought of getting to work, it’s only feelings of excitement and impatience to get out and ride that fresh powder.

7. Admire nature
It’s not every day you see snow-covered mountains or picture-perfect alpine villages. Every ski holiday guarantees views that will take your breath away. It will show you a winter scene that you simply won’t see in the Netherlands. Waking up to the magical sight of snow topped chalets and white trees every morning is worlds apart from waking up in the Netherlands.

Looking back up the mountain that you have just raced down, however slight the slope, never fails to leave you with a feeling of deep smugness and immense respect for the power of nature. Even being in the chairlift, delivers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
