BAT WALK, THE SOUNDS OF THE NIGHT (AMSTERDAMSE BOS)
Join us for an exciting after-dark journey in the Amsterdamse Bos. As dusk falls and armed with torches and a bat detector we are going on a bat hunt. While we search for these mysterious acrobats by sight, and listen for their clicks with the bat detector we’ll learn a lot about their habits. The bats use the Amsterdamse Bos as their home and hunting grounds and only after dusk they come out to play and feed on flying insects. This walk is a great opportunity to experience the sights and sounds of the Amsterdamse Bos at night.
AMSTERDAMSE BOS
Located on the edge of the city, the Amsterdamse Bos is Amsterdam’s largest park and recreational area. The Amsterdamse Bos is three times the size of Central Park (NY City). It is an essential green resource for the crowded city. The lush forests and grassy meadows offer a lot of space for walking and the area is home to several animals like polecats, weasels, ermines, Scottish highlanders, hawks, owls and bats.

Parts of this walk will be in silence. It offers you the chance to hear the sounds of the night and to connect with others who want to experience nature fully and deeply. By choosing to stay away from friendly chit-chat and explore what it’s like to walk in nature without speaking, we have a chance to engage our senses more fully and to truly connect with the natural world.
Come and join this night-time walk through the Amsterdamse Bos during which you’ll track down the bats with the help of a bat detector, which makes their echo-location calls audible to us mere humans.

We are LEAVING the visitors center at 21:00 and we finish around 23:00. All participants (members and their guests) on any of Nature Connects walks or activities are personally responsible for their own fitness, safety and welfare and must be equipped accordingly. Payments are non-refundable.
