WILD & EDIBLE PLANT WALK, A TASTE OF SPRING
Would you like to learn how to gather wild, edible plants?
Or did you just start wild picking and would you like to learn more?
This walk is a lesson in wild picking and will be hosted by Arda van Helsdingen who is organizing many wild picking hikes in and around Utrecht.
When gathering wild, edible plants, you need to know what to pick and what to pass. There are several do’s and don’ts. During this walk you will learn:
– how to recognize edible wild foods by taste, smell and touch;
– how to combine wild picks with cultivated vegetables and fruits;
– The 5 do’s and don’ts for gathering foods in the wild;
– Where to gather safely;
– At the end of the walk you’ll get a flyer with common edible plants and we will taste a few of them.
GOOD TO KNOW
Gathering foods in wild picking is a luxury, not a necessity. Wild picking is prohibited in the Netherlands, when gathered large quantity’s. In some areas you can get a penalty for wild picking. This is why this workshop has a strong focus on learning and discovering. We gather wild food with an enormous respect for plants, trees and bushes, so there still remains enough for insects, animals and for the herb to grow and multiply.
