The North Holland Dune Reserve, close to Amsterdam, is one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands. It is characterized by beautiful forests, sandy dunes with marram grass, small dune lakes, heather vegetation and various species of birds, butterflies, rabbits and squirrels. With some luck we might even encounter some highlander cows.
The dunes are very special, they protect the Netherlands from flooding and they make some of the purest drinking water in the world. The drinking water in Amsterdam, the Hague and large parts of Noord and Zuid-Holland is cleaned and filtered in the sand dunes along the Dutch coast with the North Sea.
• UPLUG & EXPLORE
During this walk we “unplug & explore”. A part of the walk will be in silence. It offers you the chance to connect with others who want to experience nature fully and deeply. By choosing to stay away from friendly chit-chat and explore what it’s like to walk in nature without speaking, we have a chance to engage our senses more fully and to truly connect with the natural world.
To walk through these dunes you need an admission ticket. You can buy the ticket at the entrance of the reserve (EUR 1,80). By getting the ticket you will help to preserve this bit of nature for future generations.
