WOMEN IN THE WOODS WEEKEND (VELUWE)
Great magic can happen when women spend time together. Get ready for an amazing Women in the Woods Weekend. Connect with like-hearted women and feed the wild woman within. Let’s walk barefoot in the grass, sleep under the stars, connect with the moon, hike in the woods, celebrate sisterhood, wrap up in blankets and share stories by the open fire. Since ancient times women have gathered together, to work, to create, to raise children, to sing, to dance and to sit in circles. Nowadays most of us are far removed from our ancestral roles and the rhythm of nature, but it is possible to come back to them. All of us have female ancestors who have lived in connection with the Earth’s patterns and cycles. Now more than ever, it is vital for us to come together to reconnect. Join our soul nourishing Women in the Woods weekend at the beautiful Dutch Veluwe.
The Veluwe is a beautiful forest-rich ridge of hills (1100 km2) in the province Gelderland. The area is notable for its diversity of scenery, which includes everything from dense forests to sand dunes, hills and heath. It is home to an abundance of wildlife including deer and wild boar.
THE FULL MOON
It is almost full moon during our weekend in the woods. As women we are mysteriously connected to the moon. Before electricity and other modern miracles, ancient humans followed the moon and its cycles. The phases of the moon coincide with the phases of a women’s menstrual cycle. Just as the Moon takes about 28 days to circle around the Earth, a woman’s menstrual cycle is approximately 28 days.
The Full Moon reflects a time when we too may want to express ourselves fully, being visible in the world connecting with others, our energy extended outwards. As the Moon journeys from fullness to darkness we may felt the need to go inwards and wish to be alone, to rest and dream anew. Let’s explore this weekend what the moon does to us.
Between 17.00 and 18.00 we gather in the forest of Epe, our home for the comings days. This weekend is an opportunity to retreat from the attachments of everyday life and to connect with like-hearted women in the middle of nature. We are staying in 4 large tents in an open space the middle of the forest. It is a private area, reserved exclusively for us. It has a fire pit, an outdoor kitchen, a large group tent and a small building with toilets and showers (the toilets and showers are shared with another group). If you want to pitch your own tent, that is possible too, there is plenty of space.
During the day we’ll make rejuvenating hikes in the woods (10-20km) and in the evening we gather around the fire to eat, to share stories and to play the drum. Everywoman attending will be asked to bring an offering for the weekend. It could be incense, an instrument, a quote, an offering to the fire, any positive vibes you feel to share with your sisters.
On Friday evening we open the weekend with a potluck, a shared dinner. Everyone brings a small portion of her favourite dish and we’ll eat it together. A potluck creates a wonderful sharing atmosphere and it is great way to get to know each other.
Breakfasts, picnic lunches, tea, coffee and soup on the evening of arrival are included (all vegetarian). On Saturday evening we’ll cook together. All the ingredients are provided. If the weather is good enough, we can cook an outdoor meal above the fire.
IMPORTANT! THERE IS NO SUPERMARKET CLOSE TO THE CAMPGROUND. PLEASE BRING EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR THE WEEKEND. IF YOU’D LIKE TO DRINK SOMETHING ELSE THEN TEA OR COFFEE OR IF YOU DO NEED SOME MEAT, PLEASE BRING IT.
